The inaugural edition of the Concacaf W Champions Cup, the confederation’s first international tournament for professional women’s soccer teams (mostly), gets underway tonight with a play-in match between the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Elite of Canada and Alianza of El Salvador.
With less than four hours to go before the kick-off of the play-in match, CBS Sports released its television and streaming schedule for the group phase on the website formerly known as Twitter.
Three NWSL teams are in the competition: The 2023 champions, Gotham FC; 2023 Shield winners, San Diego Wave; and the Shield runners-up, Portland Thorns. Gotham is in Group A, while the Wave and the Thorns are in Group B.
The group phase of the tournament consists of ten teams, which are divided in two groups of five. The groups will play a single round-robin format, so each team will play four matches, with half of the matches being home matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to an elimination bracket.
Where to Watch
In the United States, CBS has the English-language rights for the Concacaf W Champions Cup. All matches will either be available to watch either via a streaming platform, namely the free-to-watch Golazo! Network or Paramount+ (subscription required), and/or the CBS Sports Network.
On Paramount+, the matches are categorized as “More Soccer”. Here is the direct website link for that category: https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/more-soccer/.
ESPN has the Spanish-language rights for this tournament in the United States. Tonight’s play-in match is available on ESPN+. The San Diego Wave’s match on August 20th is scheduled to air on ESPN Deportes.
For those in Canada, all matches can be watched live using the no-frills Concacaf GO. Matches are also suppose to be streamed on Concacaf’s YouTube channel, but that is not always the case.
