Penelope Hocking traded from Chicago Red Stars to Bay FC

Bay FC made another big move this week, acquiring forward Penelope Hocking, who was one of the Red Stars top goal-scorers this season with 4 goals,* behind only Mallory Swanson, who has 7 goals.

The Red Stars received $250,000 of intra-league transfer funds for 2024 plus $100,000 of intra-league transfer funds for 2025 from Bay FC for Hocking. “Additionally, the Red Stars will receive 10% on any transfer fee Bay FC receives in a future transfer of Hocking.” (Bay FC press release, Red Stars press release)

Hocking, who will turn 25 in December, had 13 appearances for the Red Stars during the 2024 regular season, starting 12 of those matches. Her 4 goals this season include a goal in each of Chicago’s matches against Bay FC. (NWSL stats)

Chicago Red Stars Acquire forward Rosella Ayane on loan from Tottenham Hotspur

Earlier on Saturday, it was announced that Moroccan international Rosella Ayane had been loaned to the Red Stars through the end of the 2024 NWSL season. Ayane, who will be one of the taller forwards in the NWSL, at 5’11”, scored 12 goals for the Spurs over about 100 matches since 2019. (Red Stars press release, Spurs press release)

The 28-year-old striker was born in Reading, England, and trained in Chelsea’s academy. She was also a member of England’s U-17 and U-19 squads. (Wikipedia bio)

Seattle Reign: Update on Laura Harvey

During the Racing/Reign match on ion, J.P. Dellacamera mentioned that Seattle Reign head coach Laura Harvey, who missed that match due to an illness ,”was hospitalized” earlier in the week. No other new details were provided.

Racing Louisville head coach Bev Yanez was also absent from the sideline for this match due to an unspecified illness. According to Dellacamera, Yanez traveled to the stadium for the match, so her absence was a late development. For Racing, assistant coach Carmelina Moscato was in charge for the match.

Abby Dahlkemper Scores in Back-to-Back Regular Season Matches For Different Clubs

Friday night, Dahlkemper, who scored a late header in her final match as a San Diego Wave last weekend, followed that up with the opening goal for her new club, Bay FC, against the Portland Thorns.

According to NWSL social media, Dahlkemper is the 5th player to accomplish that feat in the NWSL.

The previous four players were Carli Lloyd (Western New York, then Houston), Jodie Taylor (Portland, then Seattle), Sam Kerr (Western New York, then Sky Blue, and Sydney Leroux (Western New York, then FC Kansas City). (x.com post)
