U-20 WWC 2024: Quarterfinals Schedule — USA-Germany Kick-Off Time Changed to 9:00 p.m. EDT

Full knockout bracket for the 2024 FIFA U-20 WWC.

On Sunday, September 15th, the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup resumes with all four quarterfinal matches, but with a twist!

Due to a change in schedule that was only announced on Thursday, the USA’s quarterfinal match against Germany will now kick off at 9:00 p.m. EDT, which is two hours later than originally planned. The USA-Germany match will be shown live on FOX Sports 2 and can also be streamed via NBC.com (direct link) and the NBC Sports app.

One other match will also be bumped to a later start time: Netherlands-Colombia will now start at 5:30 p.m. EDT.

Sunday’s quarterfinals will feature two match-ups of past champions: At 7:00 p.m. EDT, the two most recent champions, Spain and Japan, who faced each other in the last two finals at this age level (2018 and 2022), will meet once again. Then, at 9:00 p.m., 3x champions USA plays 3x champions Germany.

Only one other nation has won a U-20 WWC: Korea DPR, who are 2x champions. They will play Brazil at 3:30 p.m. EDT in Sunday’s first match.

Quarterfinals Schedule

TV: In the USA, the quarterfinals will only be televised on FOX Sports 2 and FOX Soccer Plus. FOX Sports 2 should be available to most cable/satellite/etc. subscribers, while FOX Soccer Plus is a premium channel that is usually available a la carte or included in a sports tier.

Streaming: All matches can be streamed live with Spanish-language commentary from Telemundo Deportes using the NBC.com website, the NBC Sports app, and the Telemundo Deportes app. All four quarterfinal matches can also be streamed through FOX Sports, however their website experience is not as friendly as NBC’s. Direct streaming links for both NBC and FOX are included in the below schedule.

Update (15-Sep-2024): FOXSports.com originally had Brazil vs. Korea DPR on FOX Sports 2, but it is showing a Saudi league match. Netherlands vs. Colombia will now air on FS2.

Why the schedule was changed

On Thursday, FIFA announced that the kick-off times for the two quarterfinal matches taking place in Cali will be delayed by two hours. (FIFA.com)

Officially, the primary reason given is “the positive impact… on ticket sales and the promotion of the tournament”.

Another potential factor could be the heat as Cali has had the hottest weather compared to the other host cities. For Sunday, the forecast calls for a high of 93°F. Sunset will be a few minutes after 6:00 p.m. local time.

The Cali metro area is also the home of the host’s star player, forward Linda Caicedo, who at 19 years of age, already has 37 senior international caps and 11 senior international goals. (Colombia cumulative stats report – 2024 Paris Olympics) Prior to her joining Real Madrid, Caicedo played for two of Cali’s clubs, helping both win a league title. (Wikipedia bio) In this tournament, Caicedo has scored twice, including the game-winner in Colombia’s 1-nil victory over the Korea Republic in the Round of Sixteen.

The new schedule means that none of the quarterfinal matches at this year’s FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup will have simultaneous kick-off times.
