With the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup transitioning to an annual tournament starting in 2025, the next cycle’s United States Under-17 Women’s Youth National Team is holding its first camp this week while the current cycle is in its final stages of preparation for the 2024 U-17 WWC, which begins in mid-October.
Twenty-four players, all with 2008 birth years, have been called into this camp, which runs from Sunday, September 22nd, to Saturday, September 28th, and will be held in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Of the 24 players, 17 are scheduled to graduate high school in 2026, while 6 players are set to graduate in 2027. One player, defender Pearl Cecil, will graduate a year ahead of schedule in 2025 and is a verbal commit for the University of Virginia.
In addition to Cecil, fourteen other players at this camp have known verbal commitments to play NCAA soccer. Four schools have a pair of verbal commits at this camp: Florida State, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Stanford.
According to U.S. Soccer’s press release, current US U-15 WYNT head coach Ciara Crinion will be in charge of this camp. Patchy Toledo and Katie Schoepfer, who are currently the head coaches of the U-16 WYNT and U-17 WYNT, respectively, will serve as assistants during the camp.
While this present U-17 camp is focused on players with 2008 birth years, future U-17 camps this cycle will likely feature some players with younger birth years, namely 2009 and 2010.

Notables
At least five players with 2008 birth years not called into this camp are in the running for a spot on the USA’s roster for the upcoming U-17 WWC in October: Midfielder Kimmi Ascanio of the San Diego Wave, midfielder Scottie Antonucci, forward Micayla Johnson, goalkeeper Evan O’Steen, and midfielder Jaiden Rodriguez. Of those five, all but Ascanio were called into the August U-17 camp. For that camp, Ascanio and other eligible NWSL players are presumed to be excused absences.
Three players are apparently* attending their first regular U.S. Soccer youth camp: Goalkeeper Kai Beary, defender Savannah Leifried, and forward Ava Escobedo. *Or, at least named to their first published camp roster.
For about half of the players, their first published camp roster was a 60-player U-15 Talent I.D. Camp in September 2022 (press release). Those players are: goalkeeper Josie Biehl; defenders Pearl Cecil, Natalie Chudowsky, Sierra Dupre, Nylah Norris, and Vienna Whipple; midfielders Riley Kennedy, Paige Pasinski, and Charlee Siria; plus forwards Jordan Hill, Ella Kral, and Peyton Marinos. One player who also attended the U-15 TID camp, midfielder Chloe Sadler, was named to an earlier U-15 camp in January 2022.
Two of the three goalkeepers list their heights as six-feet or higher: Kai Beary at 6’1″ and Hannah Folliard at 6’0″. Meanwhile, Josie Biehl is listed at 5’9″.
Only two players with 2026 graduation years have not announced verbal commits: Defenders Sierra Dupre and Gracie Milam.
According to U.S. Soccer, of the 24 players, 17 play for ECNL clubs and 7 play on Girls Academy teams.
About the 2025 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup
In 2023, FIFA officially committed to converting the tournament into an annual tournament (FIFA.com). In March 2024, the U-17 WWC was awarded to Morocco for five years, from 2025 to 2029 (FIFA.com). Morocco, along with Spain and Portugal, will be co-hosts of the men’s World Cup in 2030.
As with the U-20 WWC, the U-17 WWC has also been expanded to 24 teams, with the same slot allocation (FIFA.com):
- AFC: 4
- CAF: 4
- Concacaf: 4
- CONMEBOL: 4
- OFC: 2
- UEFA 5
- Host: 1
Several key details are yet to be announced, including the actual dates of next year’s U-17 WWC. Also, Concacaf has not yet announced the qualification process for the next U-17 WWC. One confederation, the AFC, will not hold a qualification tournament in 2025, but has instead selected its four teams based on their performances in the past four AFC qualifying tournaments for the U-17 WWC (the-afc.com).
