
In the second semifinal of the 2024 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, there was no treat for England on Halloween night.
Alba Cerrato returned from her two match ban and opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time on a cross from the right flank from Clara Serrajordi, who was released on a Celia Segura pass.
Segura was also involved in Spain’s second goal, as she found midfielder Ainoa Gomez in the box, who then sent a soft grounder that was slotted home by Pau Comendador, for her 5th goal of the tournament, which Comendador alone at the top of the Golden Boot race.
Spain’s final score came in the last minutes of second-half added time when a kick save by goalkeeper Hope McSheffrey rebounded off of defender Zara Shaw for an own goal.
Spain moves on to the final, for the third time in a row, where it could become the first nation to three-peat at a FIFA women’s youth tournament.
England will play the USA in the Third-Place Match, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EST on Sunday, November 3rd. The final will be played the same day, at 5:00 p.m EST.
In the United States, both matches will be televised with Spanish-language commentary on Universo. English-language coverage of the final will be on FOX Sports 2, while the Third-Place Match will be shown on FOX Soccer Plus.
