U-17 USWYNT: Second training camp of 2025 gets underway, just two weeks after the first

With Concacaf qualifying for the 2025 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup less than six weeks away, the United States Under-17 Women’s National Team is holding its second camp of the year. The previous camp ended on Sunday, February 2nd, while this current camp began on Tuesday, February 18th, meaning that there were just 15 off days between the two camps.

From that last camp, only nine players return. Five of those players also attended the first camp of the cycle, back in September 2024. Additionally, none of the four veterans of last year’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup who attended the last camp were called in for this camp.

Off the 24 players selected by head coach Katie Schoepfer, none are professionals. One player, Claire Kessenger, who is originally from Colorado (Instagram post by her former youth club), relocated with her family to the Barcelona area of Spain several years ago and currently plays for the CE Europa U-19 team. Previously, she was in the youth setup of RCD Espanyol (www.fcf.cat).

All but four of the players on this camp’s roster have announced their NCAA commitments. Two players are official commits for the 2025 fall season: forward Nyanya Touray and defender Miya Alamares, who will play for Florida State And UC Davis, respectively.

Touray is one of the five players who have attended both camps this cycle. The other four are defender Natalie Chudowsky and midfielder Charlee Siria, plus forwards Elayna Kocher and Ella Kral.

The other four players returning from the January camp are goalkeeper Peyton Trayer; plus defenders Izzy Dalke, Cali O’Neill, and Rhiannon Mahon.

Among the six players returning from the September 2024 camp is midfielder Addison “Addy” Feldman, who was a recent non-roster invitee with the Utah Royals. Also returning for their first camp of 2025 are goalkeeper Hannah Folliard; defender Sydney Schmidt; midfielders Paige Pasinski and Chloe Sadler; and forward Peyton Marinos.

Five of the 24 players are apparently attending their first proper United States youth national team camp: Goalkeeper Elli Johnson; defenders Miya Alamares and Claire Kessenger; plus forwards Maggie Currie and Kamiya Beck.

Of the remaining four players who are attending their first U-17 WNT camp, three attended at least one U-16 camp during the last cycle, including midfielder Reese Canada and defender London Young, who each attended at least three U-16 camps.

This camp is being held in West Palm Beach, Florida, and runs through February 25th.

2025 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers

With the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup now an annual event, Concacaf has revamped the qualification process. A traditional tournament will not be held this year. Instead, the remaining 12 teams will be divided into three round-robin groups of four. The winner of each group, plus the best second-place team will qualify for the FIFA U-17 WWC.

The final phase of qualifying will be played over one week, from Monday, March 31st to Sunday, April 6th. The host and schedule have yet to be announced.

On the second-to-last day of the camp, Monday, February 24th, the draw for the 2025 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers will be held at the confederation’s headquarters at 11:00 a.m. ET (Concacaf press release).

Based on the updated rankings (Concacaf.com), the draw pots should be as follows (ranks are in parentheses):

  • Pot 1: USA (1), Mexico (2), Canada (3)
  • Pot 2: Puerto Rico (4), El Salvador (5), Costa Rica (6)
  • Pot 3: Haiti (7), Panama (9), Honduras (11)
  • Pot 4: Nicaragua (12), Trinidad & Tobago (13), Bermuda (14)
