On Thursday, CONCACAF officially announced the schedule for the final stage of the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship, which will be hosted by Guatemala. This event is the confederation’s qualifying tournament for the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan, later this year. The top three teams from CONCACAF will qualify.
The USA’s U-17 WNT were automatic qualifiers for the final stage, along with Canada and Mexico. Last Sunday, a draw was held to determine the two round-robin groups.
Host Guatemala and Mexico were placed in Group A and Group B, respectively, with the other six teams being placed in three pots of two. Here is the result of that draw:
Group A: Guatemala, Canada, Panama, Jamaica
Group B: Mexico, United States, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas
The USA faces the Bahamas, first, followed by Trinidad & Tobago, and then Mexico, last:
3-May-2012 (Thursday): Bahamas vs. United States, 4:00 p.m. Eastern
5-May-2012 (Saturday): United States vs. Trinidad & Tobago, 4:00 p.m. Eastern
7-May-2012 (Monday): United States vs. Mexico, 6:30 p.m. Eastern
Group B winner vs. Group A runner-up, 3:30 p.m. Eastern
Group A winner vs. Group B runner-up, 6:30 p.m. Eastern
*Order subject to change (likely only if Guatemala finishes as Group A runner-up)
Third Place (repechage for last U-17 WWC spot): Semifinal losers, 3:30 p.m. Eastern
Championship: Semifinal winners, 6:30 p.m. Eastern
The full schedule is available at CONCACAF’s website.
All matches will be played in Guatemala City at the Estadio Cementos Progreso, which most notably has an artificial surface (Forbex) that was installed in late 2010 (Guatemalan news site). Also, the stadium has a track surrounding the field (see photo below).
