Later today, at 6:30 p.m. EDT, the United States Under-17 Women’s National Team will face off versus its northern cohorts, Canada, in the final of the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship final. Both teams have already qualified for the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, so not too much is at stake. But, a win by the USA should help guarantee it a seeded slot in the U-17 WWC as one of the top three teams. However, even if the USA loses, they could still get a seeded position. (Compare the 2008 women’s U-20 cycle: The USA lost to Canada 1:0 in the CONCACAF Championship final, but was still seeded.)
Here are some quick notes about the match’s format, the teams (including updated minutes played tables and maps of goals scored), and highlights of Canada’s matches.
BASIC DETAILS
Kick-Off: 6:30 pm EDT (4:30 pm local time)
Online: CONCACAF TV
Referee: If CONCACAF.com is correct, then Alicia Villatoro of Guatemala will have the whistle. She ref’ed the USA’s match vs Trinidad & Tobago. I thought some of her calls in that game were too ticky-tack, but the video angles and feed quality do not really allow for proper reviewing.
Extra Time and Penalty Shoot-out: According to the official regulations (PDF), if, at the end of regulation, the match ends with both teams even on goals, then thirty minutes of extra time will be played. If the match is still tied, then a penalty shoot-out will be held.
Note: FIFA changed the rules for Under-17 World Cups, both men’s and women’s last year, but that decision appears to only affect FIFA-administered tournaments.
Weather: Temperatures will be about 75°F at kick-off. Humidity should be relatively high (70%) and there is a 50% chance for rain and thunderstorms. Wind should be minimal (5 MPH or less). (Weather Underground)

the six-yard box overlaps a yellow goal.)
Probable Line-Up:
Cambell (GK)
Basinger (RB) — Bauer (CB) — Freeman (CB) — G.Miranda
Andrews (HM)
Robinson/Payne(AM) — Stanton/Payne (AM)
Purce (RF) — Green (CF) — Bruder (LF)
If Robinson has recovered from her injury versus Mexico, then we could see her and Stanton both starting. Stanton gives the midfield a more defensive character, while Payne would be an extra scoring threat, especially when the USA has numbers in the box.
