Under-20 Women’s World Cup: Unofficial ESPN Networks Schedule

According to the posted schedule on ESPN’s “WatchESPN” website, at least seventeen matches of the 2012 Under-20 Women’s World Cup will be televised live by ESPN, primarily on ESPNU. All of the United States’ group matches will be shown live, including the team’s final group match versus Germany, which will air on ESPN2. All of the knock-out matches will also be televised live. In addition to showing every USA group match, all of host Japan’s and Brazil’s group matches will be televised live.

(Edit: The second semifinal match is now listed on the website.)

(Edit #2: On Sunday, August 26th, instead of Japan/Switzerland, ESPNU will be showing the Mexico vs. New Zealand at 6:10 a.m. EDT.)

Beyond the live matches, ESPNU will also show several replays, including same-day prime time airings of the United States’ first two group matches, against Ghana and China, at 9:00 p.m. EDT.

Information regarding online-only (ESPN3) offerings are not yet available, but all matches are expected to be available online, as this was the case in 2008 and 2010. Although given that no online-only matches are listed as of August 12th, this appears to be less than likely.

United States Under-20 Women’s National Team Schedule:
August 20th, 2:55 AM EDT – Ghana vs. United States (ESPNU)
August 23rd, 5:55 AM EDT – United States vs. China (ESPNU)
August 27th, 2:55 AM EDT – United States vs. Germany (ESPN2)

MORE ON ESPNU & ESPN3

ESPNU is ESPN’s college-centric network, but has been used to air overflow youth World Cup matches and UEFA’s U-21 Men’s Championships. ESPNU is not usually a standard cable package channel, so a sports package or a digital tier is typically required to receive the channel.

ESPN3 is ESPN’s online “channel” and usually requires that the user has a cable or Internet subscription from a participating provider, although there are exceptions for on-campus college students and military personnel. See WatchESPN.com for more details, and specifically its FAQ page.
