USWNT: The USA will play Jamaica on Tuesday, June 3, instead of China PR

For the next international window, which begins in late May, the United States Women’s National Team will only play China PR once, as for some unspecified reason, China PR “could play only the first match”, which is on Saturday, May 31.

From U.S. Soccer’s press release (11-Apr-2025):

After initially agreeing to play two matches during the upcoming FIFA window, the Chinese Football Association subsequently informed U.S. Soccer that its Women’s National Team could play only the first match.

For the second match, on Tuesday, June 3, the USWNT will now Jamaica, which is currently ranked #40 in the FIFA rankings and is the fourth-highest Concacaf team, behind the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The time, venue, and broadcast details for the match have not changed.

USWNT: According to TNT’s website, the USA will play China on May 31st

Update (3-Mar-2025): U.S. Soccer has confirmed that both the May 31 and June 3 matches will be against China PR. The actual start times for both matches differ from what was listed on TNT’s website.

The name and match time for the United States Women’s National Team’s sixth friendly of 2025 has apparently leaked via the website of the television channel TNT, which is owned by the English-language media rights holder for friendlies involving the USWNT, Warner Bros. Discovery.

According to TNT’s schedule of upcoming U.S. Soccer matches (www.tntdrama.com/ussoccer)1, the USWNT will play the China PR Women’s National Team on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Neither U.S. Soccer nor the Chinese Football Association (website) have publicly announced any matches for the May-June international window. The two Brazil matches were previously announced in December 2024.

Additionally, TNT’s schedule also lists a second match for the May-June international window. That match is apparently scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 9:30 p.m. EDT. Curiously, the opponent for the second match is listed as “TBD” (to be determined), which suggests that the USA will face China only once in that window and will play a different women’s national team on June 3.

Both matches are listed as being hosted by the USA.

USWNT: Netherlands Roster for their December 2024 friendly against the USA

For the final international window of 2024, Netherlands Women’s National Team head coach Andries Jonker originally called up 26 players for friendlies against China and the United States Women’s National Team. On December 1st, forward Fenna Kalma replaced the withdrawn Damaris Egurrola.

The team continues to be without their all-time leading goal-scorer, Vivianne Miedema (120 caps, 96 goals; OnsOranje.nl profile), who underwent knee surgery for the second time this year, back at the end of October (Man City news item). She previously had “minor” knee surgery around March 1st (BBC). Miedema missed the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due an ACL injury (The Guardian) and has only played five matches for the Netherlands WNT since September 2022 (OnsOranje.nl match log).

Five other players were also not available due to injuries or health reasons:

One other player, defender Merel van Dongen (63 caps, 2 goals; OnsOranje.nl profile) was not called into due to her playing for Monterrey in the second leg of the Liga MX Feminil Apertura Final on Monday, November 25th (OnsOranje.nl recap of China friendly).

On Saturday, in front of a crowd of 17,371, the United States Women’s National Team defeat China by a score of 2 to 0, with goals scored by midfielder Carli Lloyd in the 50th minute — off an assist by second-half sub Tobin Heath — and super-sub forward Sydney Leroux in the 82nd minute. Alex Morgan, who did not start the match, earned her 20th assist of the year on Leroux’s goal, making her only the second player in USWNT history to have 20 goals and 20 assists in a single calendar year. Starting in place of Morgan was Amy Rodriguez, who earned her 100th cap for the USA and wore the captain’s armband. Saturday’s match was neither televised nor streamed online, and there are no readily available highlights, whether official or amateur. However, the Detroit Free Press write-up on the match does have a photo gallery of 20 images. Continue reading “USWNT: The USA Defeats China 2:0 in Detroit”
