Americans Abroad: K/Göteberg FC Wins The 2012 Swedish Cup
On Thursday, October 11th, Kopparbergs/Göteberg FC defeated Tyresö FF by a score of 2:1 to win its second Swedish Cup (Svenska Cupen Damer) title in a row (SvFF write-up plus box score, SvFF LiveScore). For Göteberg, American Christen Press scored the opening goal of the match and earned the decisive penalty in extra time. Three other Americans started the match for Göteberg: midfielders Yael Averbuch and Ingrid Wells plus outside back Camille Levin. For Tyresö, another American, Meghan Klingenberg, also started. Brazil’s Marta had the equalizer in regulation for Tyresö. Last year, Göteberg also defeated Tyresö to win the Swedish Cup, albeit on penalties (SvFF). USWNT: May Camp Roster – Christen Press Unable to Attend, Two New Faces
US Soccer released the roster of players called into the USWNT’s next camp, which will be held in New Jersey, from May 10th to the 25th, prior to the team’s friendly versus China, which is on May 27th. Twenty-eight players were called up, including first-timers Adrianna Franch (goalkeeper) and Gina Lewandowski (centerback). Not included in the roster is Christen Press who was invited (per her interview in this video), but was presumably not released by her club, K/Göteborg FC. USWNT: Late April Training Camp Roster Includes Christen Press
On Friday, US Soccer announced the roster of players who have been invited to a training camp which runs from April 18th to April 30th in Florida. Twenty-seven players were invited, including all 23 players who traveled to Portugal, for the Algarve Cup, and Japan, for the Women’s Kirin Challenge Cup. Additional players invited to the camp include goalkeeper Jill Loyden; midfielders Kristie Mewis (the only player still in college) and Keelin Winters; and forward Christen Press.
