Recent USWNT camp attendee Ingrid Wells scored her first goal for Damallsvenskan side K/Göteborg FC on Saturday in a friendly tournament match versus Östers IF of Sweden’s second highest league (“Division 1”). Göteborg won 4-0, with Wells contributing on all four goals.
Wells, who started as an outside midfielder, scored in the 5th minute off an assist by forward Sara Lindén. Wells then repaid her with an assist on Lindén’s 44th minute goal. In the second half, Wells added two more assists, contributing to both of substitute forward Linnea Liljegärd’s two goals (70’ and 75’).
Wells’ goal and three assists was not enough to win MVP, as that honor went to another American, Kelsey Hood, who played as a defensive midfielder.
Wells, a Georgetown alum, previously had an assist in her first match with Göteborg versus Swiss top division side FC Staad, which was a friendly in Turkey.
Göteborg FC plays fellow Damallsvenskan side Linköpings FC today at 13:30 Central European Time in the final of the four team friendly tournament.
Wells will be joined by another American, MAC Hermann Trophy winner Christen Press, who was last with the former WPS team magicJack of Florida. (Swedish article on Press’ signing at Expressen.se).
