Olympics: More Details on Brazil’s June Camp

On Friday, the CBF posted a short news item detailing the schedule for Brazil’s penultimate domestic training camp prior to the Olympics. As part of the camp, Brazil will play two scrimmages, one versus the Under-15 boys’ team of Fluminense (Wikipedia) and then one versus Brazil’s Under-20 Women’s National Team, who are preparing for the U-20 Women’s World Cup, which begins in late August. Also mentioned in the news item were the arrival dates for some of the European-based players, including Marta and Elaine, who both play for Tyresö in Sweden.

Schedule:
June 4th: Camp Begins
June 7th: Rosana arrives into camp
June 12th: Marta and Elaine arrive into camp
June 20th: Scrimmage versus Fluminense U-15 Team (Boys’)
June 29th: Scrimmage versus Brazil’s U-20 WNT
June 29th: Final 18 players are announced

The news item made no mention of any friendlies versus Colombia, which according to Colombia’s FA, were to be played on June 27th and the 30th. So, at this time, it now appears that no friendlies will be played between those two teams before the Olympics.

After the June camp, the final group of players will reconvene for one last domestic training camp, from July 2nd to the 6th, before leaving for Europe to play in a warm-up tournament.

For the full list of the 25 players called into this camp, see this earlier post.

NOTE – Brazil’s U-20 WNT: The scrimmage between Brazil’s senior WNT and its U-20 WNT is the first official news of any training camp for the U-20s since CONMEBOL’s qualification tournament, which was completed in early February.
