With just two full camps left before next year’s CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship, the actual composition of the Under-20 United States Women’s National Team remains significantly nebulous, as a number of highly regarded players have only been in one or two U-20 camps this cycle.
One primary reason for the lack of consistent call-ups is that the last two camps, this current one in November 2019, and the previous one in August 2019, were held during the NCAA regular season and post-season, which essentially made most of the college players in the U-20 pool unavailable.
In the five known U-20 camps held so far this cycle, Mark Carr, the team’s head coach, has called in a total of 60 different players with birth years from 2000 to 2002. A complete list of these 60 players is available at the bottom of this article.
Of the five camps, only two rosters are significantly informative: The La Manga camp in February,and the unpublished one for the June camp in Fairfax, Virginia,* as these are the only camps when Carr had most of the potential first-choice players available for call-ups.
*An official U.S. Soccer roster is not available for the June 2019 U-20 camp in Fairfax, Virginia. However, the U-20 USWNT played their German cohorts twice. The DFB published the match reports for both matches (DFB-1, DFB-2) which included the USA’s starting line-up and substitutes used. In both matches, a total of 20 different USA players were used. Beyond these 20 players, there may have been at least a few other USA players at the camp.
The following tables show the U-20 camp attendance for this cycle. Player attendance is indicated by the position they were listed under on the respective camp roster: Goalkeeper (GK), Defender (DF), Midfielder (MF), or Forward (FW). However, for the Fairfax camp in June, since there was no official roster, camp attendance is indicated by a “Y”.
Camp attendance for the two U-18 USWNT camps held this cycle and the last U-19 USWNT camp in 2018 are also included in these tables, as they help to indicate which eligible player are more highly regarded.
Likewise, these tables also include columns for the 2018 FIFA Under-20 Womens’ World Cup and the 2018 U-17 WWC rosters. Absent exceptional circumstances, players who made last year’s U-20 WWC roster should be considered near locks to make the CONCACAF qualifying roster this cycle. The qualifying roster should also have several players from last cycle’s U-17 team. That number could easily be higher than expected, given Carr’s previous familiarity with the 2001 and 2002 birth years pools from coaching the U-17 USWNT last cycle.
Rather than having one long table, separate tables for each field position and birth year are used, primarily for legibility, but also due to the inconsistent nature of call-ups this cycle.
Players not yet in college, primarily those born in 2002, but also younger 2001’ers, are more likely to have the most call-ups due to the NCAA season conflicts, which makes sorting by camps attended not as useful when comparing players from all birth years.

- February 2019: U-18 Camp in England (“ENG”)
- November 2018: U-19 Camp in the Netherlands (“NED”)
