On Tuesday, Sweden released its 22-player roster for its two friendly matches versus the United States and Japan, as part of the Volvo Winners Cup, which it will host in mid-June. There were no surprise inclusions, but Sweden’s injury woes since the 2011 Women’s World Cup has forced several changes to the team’s starting line-up, especially on its back line.
Sweden and the United States WNT will play each other on June 16th at 16:00 local time.

ROSTER NOTES
INJURY WOES: Sweden is missing three key players due to injuries, specifically their starting centerback pair at the 2011 Women’s World Cup, Sara Larsson (bursitis in a knee, November 2011) and Charlotte Rohlin (ACL, early May) , plus veteran midfielder Therese Sjogran (late May). Also, midfielder Linda Forsberg who had five knee operations over her career, retired last November at the age of only 26 (sverigesradio.se, in Swedish).
In addition, forward Josefine Oqvist is on pregnancy leave.
PLAYERS WHO WERE NOT IN GERMANY: Six players on the roster were not part of Sweden’s 2011 Women’s World Cup squad. Those include two players who were on the 2008 Olympic roster, centerback Stina Segerström and midfielder Johanna Almgren, who both play for Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC. The remaining four are defenders Emma Berglund and Malin Levenstad, plus forwards Kosovare Asllani and Susanne Moberg.
