The first part of this post is a table which lists the average and median ages and heights for each squad, along with the team’s rank for those statistics. Here is a list of friendlies and other international matches involving Olympics-bound women’s soccer teams, for the two months leading up to the start of the Olympic women’s soccer tournament. This post is intended as an “FYI.” After the final tune-up matches on the 20th, a more proper write-up is planned.

Under-17 Women’s World Cup: How the Teams Qualified and Quick Thoughts Ahead of the Draw
On Friday, July 6th the draw for the Under-17 Women’s World Cup (U-17 WWC) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, at 10:00 am EDT (19:00 local time). (FIFA.com) Once the draw is complete, the sixteen teams that qualified for the tournament, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will learn their opening round group opponents.
The bulk of this post reviews how the sixteen teams qualified, with scorelines for all official matches, along with the results of international friendlies, which are useful for cross-confederation comparisons. Olympics: Brazil’s WNT Announces Its Roster (Plus Other Notes)
On Friday, head coach Jorge Barcellos announced Brazil’s roster for the women’s soccer tournament at the upcoming Summer Olympics in Great Britain (CBF.com.br, in Portuguese). Only one player, defender Bruna Benites, was not on the roster for last year’s Women’s World Cup. Neither Gabriela Maria Zanotti Demoner, who played collegiate soccer at Franklin Pierce University, nor Rafaelle Leone Carvalho Souza, who currently plays for the University of Missippi (Ole Miss) are on the eighteen player roster. Olympics: New Zealand’s Roster – Three U-20 Players Among Top Eighteen
On Friday, New Zealand released the roster for its Olympic women’s soccer team (NZFootball.co.nz). Sixteen of the eighteen primary players participated in last year’s Women’s World Cup. The roster features six U-20 players in all: three on the main roster, and three alternates. The Football Ferns will also have one of the oldest players, starting goalkeeper Jenny Bindon, who will be 39 years, 150 days when the Olympic soccer tournament begins in July. U-20 WWC: USA Opponent Ghana In Midst of Funding Crisis
Recently, both the Under-20 and Under-17 Women’s National Teams of Ghana had to temporarily halt their preparations for their respective World Cups because of a lack of funds, mainly for food, from the Ghana Football Association. This brief suspension of training only lasted about a week, from Friday, June 22nd, to Thursday, June 28th, due to a benefactor stepping forward and agreeing to donate the necessary funds for the two teams’ camps. Olympics: Four USWNT Alumni To Serve As Analysts For NBC
NBC Sports announced on Thursday that four USWNT alumni will be soccer analysts at the 2012 Summer Olympics in Great Britain: Brandi Chastain, Kate Markgraf, Cat Whitehill, and Angela Hucles. Combined, those four players have seven Olympic Gold Medals.

Olympics: Sweden’s Semi-Official Roster
On Wednesday, Sweden released its roster for the women’s soccer tournament for this year’s Summer Olympics in Great Britain (SvFF). Four players were not on the 2011 Women’s World Cup roster: Defenders Emma Berglund and Malin Levenstad, who have just 16 caps total between them; midfielder Johanna Almgren, a 2008 Olympics veteran; and forward Kosovare Asllani.
