Americans Abroad: K/Göteberg FC Wins The 2012 Swedish Cup

On Thursday, October 11th, Kopparbergs/Göteberg FC defeated Tyresö FF by a score of 2:1 to win its second Swedish Cup (Svenska Cupen Damer) title in a row (SvFF write-up plus box score, SvFF LiveScore). For Göteberg, American Christen Press scored the opening goal of the match and earned the decisive penalty in extra time. Three other Americans started the match for Göteberg: midfielders Yael Averbuch and Ingrid Wells plus outside back Camille Levin. For Tyresö, another American, Meghan Klingenberg, also started. Brazil’s Marta had the equalizer in regulation for Tyresö. Last year, Göteberg also defeated Tyresö to win the Swedish Cup, albeit on penalties (SvFF). USWNT: Yes, Both Friendlies Against Germany Will Be Televised [Final Update]

FINAL UPDATE (18-Oct-2012): On Tuesday, USSoccer.com confirmed that the match in Chicago would be televised on Fox Soccer, with JP Dellacamera and Kate Markgraf in the booth.  On Wednesday, Arlo White tweeted that the second friendly would be on NBC Sports Network.

Update #3 (14-Oct-2012): Fox Soccer is also showing a replay of the first friendly on October 22nd at 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Update #2 (13-Oct-2012): The first friendly is again on Fox Soccer’s schedule.

Update (12-Oct-2012): As of sometime on Thursday, October 11th, Fox Soccer updated its online schedule. The first USA/Germany friendly is no longer listed. Instead, a UEFA Champions League Magazine show and a replay of the day’s Arsenal v. Norwich City are listed instead. Stay tuned…

Although, U.S. Soccer has yet to publicly confirm it, both of the upcoming Fan Tribute Series friendlies against #2 ranked Germany will be televised in the United States. The first match, on Saturday October 20th, which will be played at Toyota Park outside of Chicago, will be shown live on Fox Soccer, starting at 6:30 p.m. EDT.* The second friendly, on October 23rd, which will be contested in Connecticut, will air live on NBC Sports Network, with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT.**

Germany’s Travel Roster for the October Friendlies with the USWNT

Update (18-Oct-2012): On Wednesday, Celia Okoyino da Mbabi injured her thigh and will be out for two weeks, thus she will miss both of the friendlies with the USWNT. Also, Lena Lotzen and Verena Faißt are also nursing minor injuries, but should be available to play. (DFB.de, in German)

On Monday, the DFB published the the travel roster for Germany’s upcoming friendlies with the United States Women’s National Team, on October 20th (Bridgeview, Illinois) and October 23rd (Connecticut). Head coach Silvia Neid has called up 23 players, including offensive threats Celia Okoyino da Mbabi, Alexandra Popp, and Anja Mittag. Five players from Germany’s Under-20 WNT, which recently lost the U-20 Women’s World Cup final to the United States, were also called up: playmaking midfielder Dzenifer Marozsán, target forward Lena Lotzen, centerback Luisa Wensing, outside back Leonie Maier, and goalkeeper Laura Benkarth. Updates on a Possible New League and The Search for the Next USWNT Head Coach

On Friday, Sunil Gulati held a conference call where he provided updates on the search for the next head coach of the United States Women’s National Team and the possibility of a new women’s professional league. A quote sheet is available at USSoccer.com.

Regarding the search, Gulati indicated that the search committee has been quite active in discussing potential candidates and conducting interviews. Also, the soft deadline for a decision is still the end of October. In the mean time, Jill Ellis will be the interim head coach.

As to the new league, Gulati stated that there are eleven candidate owners in ten cities/market and that U.S. Soccer is in the process of vetting those owners.
